Locksmith in Kirribilli — Licensed, Local, Here When You Need Me
Locked out of your apartment off Kirribilli Avenue? Key snapped in an old deadlock? Take a breath — I'm a licensed locksmith just across the bay in Neutral Bay, and I'm on my way. Call me on 0430 604 036, any hour.
Kirribilli is one of the few corners of Sydney where you can step out of a 1930s Art Deco block, walk to the corner, and watch the ferries cross in front of the Opera House. I've worked behind a lot of those handsome brass-and-timber front doors — the ones in the older buildings along Kirribilli Avenue and Carabella Street that have been opening and closing since long before keyless entry was a thing. They're beautiful, and they're often fitted with locks that need a careful hand rather than a drill.
That's the part most callers worry about when they're locked out of a heritage apartment here: "Will you wreck my door?" The honest answer is that, the vast majority of the time, no — non-destructive entry is the goal, and on these older mortice and lever locks it's usually very achievable. I'd far rather pick a lock open and leave your original hardware intact than damage a door that's older than both of us. Where a part genuinely has to be replaced, I'll tell you that up front, and I'll match it sympathetically to the building.
Because Kirribilli is so dense with apartments, a lot of my work here comes through the people who keep these buildings running — strata managers, building managers and the receptionists at the bigger blocks near Milsons Point who've got a tenant standing in the hallway without a key. If that's you, you're in good company: I'm the locksmith plenty of Lower North Shore neighbours and building managers call first, and I'm happy to be the name on your noticeboard.
The Kirribilli lock landscape
Kirribilli is apartment country — tightly packed Art Deco and inter-war blocks tumbling down the slope toward the harbour, with comparatively few freestanding houses. That shapes the lock work here in a very particular way. You get a lot of original mortice locks, lever locks and older cylinder hardware that's been in service for decades, often inside strata buildings where any change to a common-property door, intercom or entry system has to be done properly and on the record. Restricted and master key systems matter enormously in these buildings — one secure key plan that covers the entry, the bin room, the mailroom and individual units saves managers from the chaos of uncontrolled key copying. At the same time, plenty of owners are quietly modernising behind those heritage facades, fitting smart locks and keyless entry to a unit door without touching the building's protected exterior. Knowing where heritage sensitivity ends and a sensible upgrade begins is most of the job in Kirribilli.
What I do in Kirribilli
- Emergency apartment lockouts — non-destructive entry for the older mortice and lever locks common in Kirribilli's Art Deco blocks, so your original door and hardware stay intact
- Lock changes and installation — like-for-like replacements that suit a heritage building, plus secure modern units where it makes sense
- Rekeying — sensible after a tenant changes over, a break-up, or a lost key, so old keys stop working without replacing the whole lock
- Restricted and master key systems for strata — one controlled key plan covering entries, bin rooms, mailrooms and individual units, with copying you actually control
- Smart locks and keyless entry — discreet upgrades to your unit door that respect the building's protected exterior
- Car key and transponder work — for keys lost or locked in the car along Kirribilli Avenue, in residential parking or down near the wharf
- Commercial and building-manager work — fast, reliable callouts for the strata managers and apartment receptionists who refer jobs across the Lower North Shore
What locals say
“Locked myself out at 11pm with a sleeping toddler inside and panicking. Rang and Dave was at my door within 35 minutes, calm and reassuring. Had the door open in minutes without any damage. Honest, upfront pricing too. Absolute lifesaver, cannot recommend highly enough.”
“Just moved into our new place and wanted all the locks rekeyed for peace of mind. Dave came out the next morning, sorted every door plus the garage, and explained exactly what he was doing. Quick, tidy and very fairly priced. Genuinely lovely bloke to deal with.”
“Lost my only car key and was dreading the dealership cost. Dave cut and programmed a new key in my driveway for a fraction of the quote I got elsewhere. Friendly, professional and knew his stuff. Saved me a fortune and a whole lot of stress. Brilliant service.”

I'm locked out of a heritage apartment in Kirribilli — will you damage my door?
Almost never. The older mortice and lever locks in Kirribilli's Art Deco blocks are usually well suited to non-destructive entry, so the aim is to pick the lock open and leave your original door and hardware exactly as they were. If a part genuinely has to be replaced, I'll tell you before I do anything, and I'll match it sympathetically to the building.
How quickly can you get to Kirribilli?
I'm based in Neutral Bay, so Kirribilli is one of the closest suburbs I cover — usually a short run around through Careening Cove or across via Milsons Point. I won't promise a fixed number of minutes I can't guarantee, but when you call I'll give you an honest ETA and let you know if traffic over the Bridge or around the markets changes anything.
Can you do strata and common-property work for a Kirribilli building?
Yes — a good share of my Kirribilli work comes through strata managers, building managers and apartment receptionists. I handle common-property entries, intercoms-adjacent lock hardware, restricted and master key systems, and rekeys, and I'm comfortable doing it properly and on the record so the building's security plan stays intact. Happy to be the locksmith on your noticeboard.
Can I fit a smart lock in my unit without upsetting the building's heritage look?
In most cases, yes. Smart locks and keyless entry can be fitted to your own unit door discreetly, without touching the protected exterior of an older Kirribilli block. I'll talk you through what suits your door and, where common property or strata approval is involved, point you in the right direction first.
Are you actually licensed?
Yes. I hold NSW Master Security Licence 000111072, and I'm rated 5.0 across more than 200 Google reviews from neighbours around the Lower North Shore. You're dealing with a licensed local, not a city-wide call centre.
